Since being selected as a Main Street in 1984, Madison Main Street has been annually certified as a National and Georgia Main Street. As such, the city funds a full-time management position to coordinate and implement the Main Street Four-Point Approach®.
In 2017, Madison was designated a Georgia Exceptional Main Street (GEMS) by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, one of only 16 in the state. GEMS represent some of the best of the best Main Street Programs that Georgia has to offer.
Promote the continued development of Downtown Madison, Georgia, as a strong economic engine for Morgan County, while preserving the historical integrity and small-town character of the city.
Madison Main Street will promote the city as a destination for arts, architecture, antiques, dining, and family entertainment, as well as a business center. Retail, professional, service, and hospitality businesses will be fostered as downtown continues to grow into a cultural and retail magnet for visitors, tourists, and residents alike.

The 4-Point approach is implemented by three work groups: MSAB guides Outreach & Promotions activities; DDA guides economic restructuring initiatives; and HPC guides design and preservation efforts. The largest and most prominent community transformation strategies are outlined in the Comprehensive Plan's Short Term Work Program, which is updated annually. Most Recent Main Street Excerpt (PDF)
