Functions

The city manager is hired by the Mayor and City Council to deliver high-quality, effective, and efficient services to Madison residents, businesses, and visitors. While the mayor and City Council set the policy direction for the community, the city manager implements these policies to achieve the city's goals.

Manager Klimm maintains an open door policy. If you have a compliment or a concern, call for an appointment or drop by to visit with him when he is in office.

Responsibilities

The City of Madison's day-to-day operations are overseen by the city manager, who guides the supervisors and departments under his management.

The major components of the city manager's job include:

  • Assisting the mayor and City Council in strategic planning for the City's growth
  • Ensuring the fiscal health of the city through prudent financial management
  • Implementing the city's adopted regulations and policies
  • Managing the day-to-day delivery of city services
