Garbage - Recycling - Trash
The City of Madison is pleased to be able to offer convenient and efficient garbage, recycling, and trash removal to the public. For question regarding refuse services, contact the Utilities Clerk at (706) 342-1251 x201.
Garbage - Residential
Madison is one of the few cities that does not require garbage receptacles to be moved to the curb. All residential garbage must be bagged, placed in 30-gallon containers, and covered with a lid. Garbage containers should be stored in a screening enclosure. Four weekdays are allotted for normal residential service; contact City Hall to ask which day your area is served.
Recycling
Home Sanitation picks up Madison's recyclable materials on Mondays, rain or shine. Remember to place your recycling bin near the curb either Sunday evening or by 6:30 a.m. on Monday morning. It is also important to retrieve the bin on Monday evening. Recycling bins are available free of charge at City Hall. For more information or contact Home Sanitation at (770) 972-0999. Click here for the holiday schedule.
Trash
Trash includes leaves and limbs, scrap metal, old mattresses, debris, and other assorted household items (no construction materials). Trash must be sorted by type: 1) leaves, 2) limbs, 3) scrap metal, and 4) junk items. Leaf and limbs are picked up on a continual basis, provided that they are sorted and never bagged. Scrap metal and junk items are picked up on Wednesdays.
*Unsorted or mixed trash will be picked up as well; however, the owner must call to schedule a pick up and be willing to pay the additional fee.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Please place any garbage, recycling or trash near the curb but never in the street, as it constitutes a public safety hazard and can result in legal consequences. |
