Household Garbage – Weekly Service
Madison is one of the few cities that still provides convenient backdoor service for household garbage. To assure regular and efficient pick up, all residential garbage must be:

- Placed in 30-gallon containers
(in screening enclosure, preferred)
- Covered with a lid
Four weekdays (M, T, R, F) are allotted for normal garbage service. Households are divided into four household garbage routes.
During a holiday week, garbage may run on an alternative schedule:

Bulk Trash Collection – Weekly Service
One of the great services that improves city residents quality-of-life occurs each Wednesday – bulk trash collection. Residents may dispose of white goods (appliances), rolled carpets, old furniture, and similar items by placing them near the curb but not intruding upon the street or sidewalk.
Please Note: Leaf and Limb Service and Bulk Trash Collection are different services and processed in entirely different facilities. Mixed debris will not be picked up.
General Waste – Transfer Station
As county taxpayers, Madison residents may also use the Transfer Station, 2480 Athens Highway, to dispose of unacceptable waste.
The Transfer Station opens for general waste disposal: Monday- Friday 8:00-4:30 and Saturday 8:00-noon. For additional information and limitations, see Morgan County Sanitation.
